Oysa Sultan Abdülaziz, Galatasaray Lisesi’ni kuran; Yargıtay, Danıştay ve Sayıştay’ın temellerini atan; ülkenin ilk yerel seçimlerini yaptıran, Avrupa’yı ziyaret eden ilk ve tek Osmanlı padişahıydı. 4 Haziran 1876’da Feriye Sarayı’nda bilekleri kesilmiş halde ölü bulunduğunda, ardında bir buçuk asırdır fikir hayatımızı meşgul eden bir soru bıraktı: İntihar mı, cinayet mi? Şimdi bu muammaya bir yenisi ekleniyor. Millet Kütüphanesi’nde yazarı belirsiz biçimde kataloglanmış küçük bir risalenin ferağ kaydı, sultanın 1870’te, tahtta olduğu yıllarda bizzat kaleme aldığı bir felsefe metnini ortaya çıkardı. Ebherî’nin medreselerde asırlarca okutulan Hidâyetü’l-Hikme’sine yazılmış bu şerh; atomun reddinden heyula-suret ilişkisine, İbn Sînâ’dan Tûsî ve Cürcânî’ye uzanan tartışmalara hâkim, alanına gerçekten vâkıf bir zihnin ürünü. Divanlar dışında bir Osmanlı padişahına ait olduğu bilinen tek eser olan risale, Platon’un düşlediği “filozof hükümdar” tasavvuruna beklenmedik bir isim ekliyor. Murat Serdar Saykal’ın titiz neşriyle, tıpkıbasımı ve Latin harfli aktarımıyla birlikte sunulan kitap; Prof. Dr. Akif Emre Öktem’in takrizi ve Burcu Bayer’in aydınlatıcı incelemesiyle, asırlarca yanlış tanınmış bir hükümdarın entelektüel portresinin farklı bir yönüne ışık tutuyor.
