Hakko Irons FR-301 Editorial Review
The Hakko FR-301 is a desoldering tool that comes with a hard plastic carrying case. Although the manual and all documentation are in Japanese, it is intuitive to use. The standard tip it comes with is good for XLR plugs, IC removal, solder lugs, and plugs. It can be operated on 120V, but it is designed for 100V, which will shorten its lifespan and cause the motor to scale with the AC voltage. Therefore, it is recommended to use a stepdown transformer to supply 100Vac to the unit. Replacements for all parts are available, and they are easy to find. The only negative is that the stand it comes with is useless, and it's better to invest in a good stand like the Hakko 633-01 Iron Holder w/599B Tip Cleaner.
