The Tascam DR-40X is a high quality, portable recorder that allows for stereo as well as mono recording. It has Neutrik combo jacks, that accept either an XLR cable or a 1/4" mono plug. The device also allows choosing between mic or line level inputs. Although it is not good for recording for overly bassy sound, the audio quality is very clear.However, the recorder eats through AA batteries quite fast, and there is no warning when the battery levels are low. Additionally, it does not come with internal storage, so it requires an inserted SD card. The recorder does not light up in the dark, but the customer reviews mostly say that it has good sound quality, is easy to use, and is customizable. The Tascam DR-40X comes highly recommended by customers, especially for recording concerts or videos in remote settings.
