The Behringer CRAVE is a good, cheap option to get into modular synthesis. The ability to connect an external keyboard via MIDI or CV adds to its appeal. The patch bay is a standout feature and allows for experimentation. At its price point, it is a great starting point for those interested in exploring semi-modular synthesis.
