In "Goodbye to All That", Robert Graves provides an unsentimental account of his experience during World War I. The autobiography is also an introduction to many historical figures of Graves' time, lending a greater understanding of his poetry. Despite experiencing the tragedies of war, Graves kept some decency about him and humor is evident throughout the book. The author’s love of the natural world contrasts with the devastation of war. Overall, the book is truthful, direct, unvarnished, and beautifully written.
